About the Germany site
This page belongs to the Germany site in this Foundation reference deployment. Germany is the reference example of a country that keeps its own website inside one Foundation installation.
What this site demonstrates
- an independent page tree for Germany, separate from the Global site
- the site is available in German and English
- two demonstration locations, Berlin and Frankfurt
- the Site, Location, Language and Layout controls working together
The Global site and this site are independent: neither reads pages from the other. That is deliberate — a country site can grow its own structure without changing what the Global site says.
Sites, languages and locations
The controls in the header describe four different aspects of this website:
- Site chooses which website you are reading — here, Global or Germany.
- Language chooses how the site is read — German or English.
- Location chooses a physical or service context inside the site — Berlin or Frankfurt, or All locations for the whole site.
- Layout changes only how the interface is presented — Sidebar or Menu bar. It is a visitor preference and belongs to no site.
A location does not create a second page tree. Berlin and Frankfurt share the pages of this Germany site, which is what makes them locations rather than further sites.
Languages belong to the site
Languages are configured for the site as a whole. This site offers German and English to all of its locations, so Berlin and Frankfurt are read in the same two languages. Locations do not carry their own language restrictions in this model.
The layout choice is yours
The Layout control in the header switches between the Sidebar and Menu-bar presentations without changing the page, its address, its site, its language or its location. Your choice stays in your browser and is remembered the next time you visit.
Berlin and Frankfurt are demonstration data
Berlin and Frankfurt are part of the reference configuration. They are not statements about real Provelopment offices, addresses, phone numbers or opening hours, and the address shown is a placeholder.
An adopter replaces this demonstration configuration with their own sites, languages and locations. Germany exists here so you can see the capability working, not because the template knows anything about Germany.
