About this Foundation website

This website is a working deployment of the open-source Provelopment Foundation template. The same public code used to build this site can be downloaded, changed and deployed by anyone.

What this site demonstrates

This is the template's own reference deployment, not a client website. It shows the parts you would use on your own site: a Home page written in the JSON mode, this About page written in Markdown, the shared navigation and the two layout presentations, and the settings in one configuration file.

A website you control

Foundation is intended to give the website owner a real, usable starting point rather than a platform they cannot leave. Your pages, your images and your settings are ordinary files in your own repository, and the website is built from them. Nothing about the site is locked inside an account you cannot reach.

Two ways to create pages

Straightforward content can be written in Markdown — plain text with a few simple marks for headings, lists and links. More structured pages can use Foundation's declarative JSON page format, where you list the sections of a page instead of writing prose.

This page is the Markdown example; the Home page is the JSON example. Both are pages: they are authored the same way, published by the same route, and appear in the site's sitemap automatically.

Designed to grow with the site

A Foundation site can serve more than one country, more than one language and more than one physical Location, and a visitor can switch between the Sidebar and the Menu-bar presentations.

This deployment configures one site, one language and no Locations, so Foundation offers only the Layout control here. The other controls appear when a site configures the languages and Locations it actually serves — they are never faked for appearance.

Open source first

Foundation — Free and open source: Download it. Deploy it. Modify it. Own it.

Provelopment's help is optional. It is a way to have the site built, extended and maintained, not a condition for keeping access to it: the same site, in your own repository, is yours to run and to take with you.
